Enjoy an Iconic Meal in the Heart of London

Discover iconic meal in the heart of London

Traditional roast dinners have always been popular in the UK, especially on Sundays.  It has long been an iconic classic, ideal for a leisurely sit-down meal in a pub or restaurant.  We’ve found some of the best places to eat a roast dinner in London which you can enjoy during your stay at any of the hotels in North West London.

Many pubs such as the historic galleried George pub in Southwark only offer a traditional roast meal on Sundays, but generally, you can find the combination of meat, veg, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy on the menus of numerous other locations.

A stroll across London Bridge brings you to the Borough Market based Roast.  Not surprisingly given its location within one of the premier food markets, Roast has a superb choice of local food.  Its traditional roast dinners are superb, and there are even Vegetarian and Vegan versions available to ensure that everyone can enjoy the traditional meal.

Also worth considering is the Swan Pub, near the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.  Situated on the riverbank, you can enjoy views of the river while dining.  Traditional roast meals are available all day. It is a great place to dine before visiting the theatre or discovering more about Shakespeare within the centre.

For a really special traditional roast served in a lovely environment, head for Simpsons in the Strand.  Traditional roasts have been served here since 1848.  There is a sense of theatre too about the meal since the chefs bring the roast to your table on a gleaming silver trolley, before carving slices for your meal. Anyone still hungry afterwards can try a traditional dessert such as apple pie or sticky treacle sponge and custard!

Equally worth considering is Blacklock which has branches in Soho, the City and Shoreditch.  You can watch the joints of meat slow roasting over open coals, before choosing between beef, pork or lamb.  This is pure nostalgic food and there is a good choice of desserts such as a classic cheesecake to follow.

If you are seeking a pint of beer with your meal, then make tracks for the Old Red Cow at Smithfield in the City.  It is a great place for a traditional roast meal any day of the week. With the Smithfield meat market only a short distance away, the chefs are able to take advantage of the best meat on offer.  The beer is excellent, but you will find it hard to make a choice since there are usually at least 15 beers on tap – and yet more varieties available in bottles.

Visitors probably staying in one of the top rated Best Western hotels in London can visit to Spaniard’s Inn on Hampstead Heath that has been attracting diners for its traditional roast meals for years.  This is one of the most historic pubs in the area, and was once a haunt of highwaymen preying on people travelling across Hampstead Heath.  Now it is a great place to stop off for a meal and a pint, after enjoying a walk providing access to some stunning views of London’s skyline.
