London’s Spring Art Exhibitions are Outstanding

Guide to London’s spring art exhibitions are outstanding

Whatever your taste in art, you are guaranteed to find something to please in the latest art exhibitions opening in London. Impressionist landscapes, Beatrix Potter illustrations, Andy Warhol iconic images as well as the delicacy of Japanese design – there is something for everyone.

Enjoy the beauty of Beatrix Potter's intricate illustrations at Somerset House’s Mushrooms exhibition as well as thought-provoking items such as shoes made from mycelium and the use of mushrooms in architecture. These are mushrooms as you have never seen them before – psychedelic, historical, mindful as well as extremely practical.

If Impressionism is your preferred style, then there are two exhibitions from which to choose. French impressionist prints can be seen at the British Museum while over at the Royal Academy in Piccadilly a collection of Impressionist paintings from the Ordrupgaard Collection, Denmark is on display. Apart from works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Manet and Daubigney; the exhibition also contains a stunning display of work by Paul Gaugin showing how he began as an Impressionist painter and eventually developed a new style which was more symbolic, colorful and dramatic reflecting his travels to distant lands.

Book a stay at any of the budget hotels near Wembley Stadium and take a stroll to V&A Museum which is also highlighting art from far afield as it is hosting a spectacular exhibition looking at Kimonos Kyoto to Catwalk. A traditional Japanese clothing style, it has now been taken up by fashion designers and turned into a high fashion clothing item – as well as becoming essential wear for Jedi warriors in Star Wars.

Drama and color are the focus of attention on the South Bank, highlighting the work of two very different artists. Meet Vincent Van Gogh is a superb immersive opportunity to explore the artwork that is too fragile ever to leave Amsterdam. Using modern technology, the exhibition team has been able to recreate some of his most famous works enabling visitors to see through his eyes and discover how his life transformed his art, from the landscapes of the Netherlands to the dramatic, sun-drenched color of southern France.

Not far away at the Tate Modern on Bankside is a new exhibition relating to the work of Andy Warhol.  It makes the perfect location to view classic images of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell’s Soup cans as well as unexpected exhibits like the Exploding Plastic Inevitable psychedelic multimedia experience.  Alternatively, you can try playing with his floating Silver Clouds!  The Tate has created quite a comprehensive collection of his work, and many of the items have never been seen before in the UK so this is an outstanding opportunity to see the output of this classic contemporary artist during your stay at Palm Hotel.
