Raise a Glass (or two!) & Discover Brewing Secrets in London

Beer and cider are two of the UK’s most popular alcoholic beverages.  Take a tour around one of the many London breweries and discover the secrets of brewing.

Bermondsey, just across the river from Tower Bridge has become one of the centers of London’s brewing industry.  London Brewery tours offer a Bermondsey Microbrewery Experience providing a tasting stop at five breweries as well as behind the scenes tours at the Partizan and Southwark Breweries.

At UBrew in Bermondsey you can book a 6 hour guided session enabling you to actually brew your own beer from start to finish – although you cannot taste your own brew on the day as it needs to be left to mature at UBrew for 6 weeks before collection).

Also in Bermondsey is London’s first-ever cidery that you must visit while a resident at any of the hotels in North London.  At Hawkes Taproom you can find out how cider is produced, and enjoy a taste of cider from around the world.  You can book cider making masterclasses if you want to try making your own.

Elsewhere in London, good venues for brewery tours include the Camden Town brewery.   Tucked away under the railway arches, this is one of the newer breweries in London and includes the opportunity to try the beer directly from the production tank.  Tours last around 180 minutes.

Head over to Greenwich and discover the Meantime Brewing Company, which has been brewing beers here for over 20 years. Brands include Yakima red ale, London Lager and a Chocolate Porter. Tours take place every day and include the opportunity to taste its beers.

For pure heritage and longevity, Fullers is definitely the brewery to seek out.  From its site in Chiswick, it has been providing Londoners with beer for over two hundred years.  The fascinating tour around the brewery enables you to discover how brewing has changed over the years, ending in a look around the company’s own museum.  The on-site tasting session enables you to try the various Fullers beers and discover the differences between each one.

Whatever your brewery tour choice, pre-booking is essential. You can pre-book your room at any of the hotels near Wembley Stadium. Tour numbers are limited as some of the areas you visit can be quite small.  An age requirement often applies, especially when it comes to tasting sessions, which means participants are expected to be over 18.
